Thakkali Thokku (Tomato Thokku)

Simple, easy yet a tasty side dish for idli, dosa and even for chapati and poori

Ingredients
  • Tomatoes medium size  - 7 to 8

  • Oil 7 - 8 spoon

  • Mustard

  • Hing

  • Salt

  • Sambar powder

Step by step method to prepare Thakkali Thokku

  • First roughly chop the tomatoes.

  • Add them to the mixer grinder and take the pulp out.

  • In a kadai add 7 to 8 spoon of gingelly oil, when it gets warm add mustard seed and hing.

  • Now add the tomato pulp to the gingelly oil and mix them well.

  • Add required salt and sambar powder and give a good mix.

  • Make sure the entire sambar powder is  completely dissolved in tomato pulp

  • Let it cook for 5 mins in medium flame, you will notice a forthy formation. Stir them well and cover the thokku with a lid to avoid spluttering.

  • Make sure to open the lid after few minutes to stir them well, else it might burn in the bottom. Continue till...

  • You find the thokku getting thicker and oil at the bottom.

Now your Thakkali Thokku is ready to serve

Note:

  1. Use fresh and red tomatoes to get tasty thokku.

  2. Using of gingelly oil will enhance the taste and also good for health.

  3. It can be kept in room temperature for 2 to 3 days, if refrigerated it stays fresh for 10 to 15 days.
